We will take every measure to ensure that your procedure is in no way uncomfortable or painful. If treatment is needed, we will inject a small amount of anesthesia to gently numb a concentrated area of your mouth. For most patients, the feeling of numbness usually subsides after 2-3 hours. Dr. Heyse will also actively manage your recovery with the proper prescriptions and by providing you with detailed post operative instructions.
Endodontists are dentists who specialize in maintaining teeth through endodontic therapy — procedures, involving the soft inner tissue of the teeth, called the pulp. The word “endodontic” comes from “endo” meaning inside and “odont” meaning tooth. Like many medical terms, it’s Greek. All dentists are trained in diagnosis and endodontic therapy, however, some teeth can be especially difficult to diagnose and treat. That’s why you may have been referred to an endodontic specialist.
To become an Endodontist, Dr. Heyse completed dental school, attended an additional year of advanced dental training in the Air Force, then received twenty six months of Endodontic specialty training. Endodontists study root canal techniques and procedures in greater depth, for diagnosis and treatment of more difficult cases. For this reason, many dentists choose to refer their patients to endodontists.
Dr. Heyse will let you know if he recommends that you return to the office 6 months to 1 year after the completion of your procedure. Our office will send a reminder notice to you when you are due for a recall appointment and will send a detailed correspondence letter to your dentist .
A “root canal” procedure is one of the most common dental procedures with over 15 million performed every year. This treatment is the best option to save your natural tooth when the tooth nerve becomes damaged and can no longer heal itself due to inflammation or infection. Root canal success rates are high, in fact, one study followed 1,462,936 teeth treated with initial root canal therapy and it found that 97% of the teeth were retained at their 8 year follow up appointment.
